PRECISE PRESENTATION Chief among the designer's many respon- sibilities is conveying accurate and com- prehensive design ideas and schema so that you can make an informed decision as to how you're spending your money. A pro- fessional design presentation will enable you to fully visualize the end result, leaving as little as possible to the imagination. Exactly how they present their designs will vary due to the many different types of design media available these days. Some designers will hand render rough sketches of design ideas on the spot to prompt discussion. If the designer is highly skilled with a pen and paper, he or she might also subsequently generate highly detailed perspective drawings that in some cases will be suitable for framing after the proj- ect is finished.. Many designers will rely on portfolios of photographs or online galleries of past projects to illustrate various design itera- tions, as well as showcase their own work. If possible, some professionals will set up site visits to past projects that might be similar in nature to the design you're considering. Designers can also create renderings us- ing any number of sophisticated CAD pro- grams. In many cases, those digital images are rendered in 3D so that you can virtually "walk" through the space, which enables you to gain a clear a sense of the experiences that you'll have once the work is done. In some cases, designers will create scaled architectural models as a means of presentation. (There may come a time in the near future when the advent of 3D printing might make physical modeling a more common means of presentation.) However the designer chooses present the design, you can expect them to make every effort to fully communicate both the overall layout of the project along with key visual perspectives and details. MATERIAL CHOICES As mentioned above, pools were once lim- ited to a narrow set of material options.
