Outdoor, weather resistant fabrics for furniture and drapery, as well as adding radiant heating to the floor and install- ing an overhead heater, also help ensure outdoor comfort all year long. Shiva Noble, executive vice president of Cal Spas, echoes that idea. "That cre- ates that living room environment for them, but outdoors," she says. Even in smaller spaces, though, Noble says fire features can be incorporated into the hardscaping of an outdoor living space. For instance, she points to prod- ucts that incorporate a BBQ island with fireplace and waterfall built into it. Sarah Lograsso, marketing manager at Eldorado Stone, says fire bowls are also particularly versatile, whether the space is large and grand, or sleek and minimalist. The experts at both Cal Spas and El- dorado Stone agree that paying close at- tention to the overall design of the space is important, by considering elements such as how the aesthetic and flow fits in with the rest of the hardscaping and landscaping, as well as how the space will actually be used. "I've never heard anyone say, 'I have too much seating around my fire,'" Nad- olski says. Other things to consider are the place- ment of the sun throughout the year in relation to the fire feature's seating area, how the outdoor space looks from the inside of the house and vice versa, install- ing proper lighting around the overall space, and having wireless entertainment options at the push of a button. "We're creating these memorable spaces," Lograsso says. Nadolski agrees. "You can have your cup of coffee in the morning and a glass of wine in the evening," she says. "It just offers so much to that home owner.", I N - D E P T H Insider Fire features can be incorporated into virtually any size of outdoor living space. photographs courtesy of Cal Flame
